Investments grow 54.6 percent in Ukrainian commercial real estate market in 2007

CIS countries are currently experiencing rapid growth in the real estate sector. Ukraine’s real estate market is one of the most developed and continues to have high investment potential. World-wide consulting company A.T. Kearney rated Ukraine fourth among the most investment-attractive countries after India, Russia and Vietnam. According to Ukraine Trade Guild experts, “The investment attractiveness of the country is growing and in coming years Ukraine’s economy will keep growing at the rate of 5 to 7 percent, which certainly appeals to foreign investors.”

Some 95 percent of foreign investments in Kyiv are in the commercial real estate market. Foreign investments recorded over the first nine months of 2007 amounted to 2.3 billion hryvnas (approximately $460 million). This figure is 54.6 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year. The most active investors come from Netherlands, Cyprus, Russia, Austria and Estonia.

The most attractive segments of Ukraine’s commercial real estate market are office centers and shopping malls, followed by hotels and warehouse space.

Kyiv authorities stated that in 2008-2009 they will pay special attention to increasing the investment appeal of Ukraine’s capital, commercial and residential real estate projects. Specialists note that, aside from Kyiv, Ukraine has other cities that are attractive in terms of investment opportunities, such as Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa.

To obtain an objective assessment of Ukraine’s real estate market, one must find the specifics of operating in this market and be introduced to the key market players and real estate investment projects visited by the business forum Investments, Construction, Real Estate in Russia and CIS – Dealmakers Forum, that will be held on April 23-24, 2008, in Moscow (Pavilion 7, Expocenter) as part of the Investments, Real Estate, Construction 2008 exhibition.
